Application to ICAP

The mid-career participants who attend the International Career Advancement Program are carefully selected from applicants who:

  • Have a demonstrated commitment to increasing the diversity of senior leadership in the United States in international affairs;

  • Are US citizens or permanent residents;

  • Are professionals who have been or are now in international careers, generally with 5 years or more of professional work experience;

  • Have command of at least one language other than English;

  • Have educational credentials necessary for advancement, usually a Masters, JD or other advanced degree;

  • Have outstanding achievements that demonstrate potential to serve in the highest levels of administration and policy making;

  • Have recommendations indicating unusual promise for leadership; and

  • Are committed to supporting other ICAP Fellows and to mentoring those junior to them in international affairs;

ICAP Dates and Deadline: ICAP 2024 will be held in two parts: The ICAP Introductory session in Washington, DC in September 2024 that will include both classes; and two classes in Aspen, Colorado will be a week in September or October 2024.  The application process opens in February and the final deadline for receiving applications in Denver is May 24, 2024.  Most sponsoring organizations have their own internal selection processes with earlier deadlines but, are expected to submit their candidates’ materials to Denver by May 24, 2024.  Please check with your employer’s Human Resources Department to see whether there are special application processes and deadlines.

Completing & Sending Application: If applying directly to ICAP and you or your references submit hard copies, please mail to the address above.  Applications may be sent electronically to icap@du.edu with a copy to Tom.Rowe@du.edu. Letters of recommendation may also be sent electronically directly from the recommender to icap@du.edu with a copy to Tom.Rowe@du.edu.

Please Note: There is no application fee.  With the exception of some sponsored ICAP Fellows, applicants selected as participants in ICAP 2024 are responsible for their own travel expenses to and from Aspen.  Otherwise program costs and meals in Washington, DC, during the introductory session as well as all program costs, conference expenses, room and meal expenses in Aspen will be covered by either the sponsoring organization or by ICAP donors.
